Solo Dream Drive towards North East 2016…Day (29) Gangtok

19th March 2016, Saturday…Day (28) Gangtok 42 km

After a sound sleep of about six hours got up to an amazing morning at Gangtok. Drove to Vajra taxi stand, freshened up and called a travel agent for a shared seat for Nathula. Since the permits for visiting Nathula are issued one day advance, I could not get a seat for Nathula that day. So I had to postponed the plan to visit Nathula the next day.

After a cup of tea from Roshan, I walked down to MG Road. Again the weather was overcast which was followed by light drizzle. Went to a tour operator and booked one seat for Nathula, the next day.

Since I had full day to myself and nothing much to do, walked a little further to Gangtok Ropeway and enjoyed to and fro ride @80-. Although it was cloudy, could not see Kanchenjunga or any of the mountain ranges, yet the views of the city from up above the ropeway cabin were amazing.

After enjoying the ride I went walking through the various busy bazaars of Gangtok and found this interesting place, Sikkim Organic Market. The market was very neat, clean and had variety of organic fruits and vegetables for sale.

Walked back to Vajra parking, picked up the car and drove to Ganesh Tok and then to Hanuman Tok, offering spectacular sights of the snow capped peaks. The view was hampered though as dark clouds were formed all around.

Liked Hanuman Tok for the serene environs surrounding the temple. Although the views of Kanchenjunga mountain range were hampered by thick layer of dark clouds, yet the place was so serene and calm that I decided to spend some time at the place. The place is managed by Indian army, so the entire area is commercial free and well maintained.

In the evening drove back to MG Road and had yet another lively evening. It is the most happening place in Gangtok, the neat flowery ambience instantly makes you feel like you are in a different world. Besides many shopping options within budget, the place has a number of good places to eat.

Like many times in the past, enjoyed sumptuous chicken egg roll from ‘Khan Uncle’ and walked back to the place where Lalpari  was parked and slept for yet another time inside the car…….!!!
